Bodie, California

Bodie State Historic Park is a genuine California gold-mining ghost town. Visitors can walk down the deserted streets of a town that once had a population of nearly 10,000 people. The town is named for Waterman S. Body (William Bodey), who had discovered small amounts of gold in hills north of Mono Lake. In 1875, a mine cave-in revealed pay dirt, which led to purchase of the mine by the Standard Company in 1877. People flocked to Bodie and transformed it from a town of a few dozen to a boomtown.

Pictures of Pictures Yosemite Edition

Each time I go somewhere I can't help but turn my camera on those taking photographs themselves. I did this last year with my trip to Acadia National Park and many of my blog viewers enjoyed it so I continue the tradition with this post. These images are of tourists making their summer memories at Yosemite national Park.

Boston responds to the death of Osama bin Laden

During my flight home last night from Atlanta to Boston the captain came over the intercom mid flight saying he had some important breaking news he wanted to share with us. Everyone gasped thinking the worst but as he spoke the passengers quickly eased up and rejoiced when they heard the news that Osama bin Laden had been killed. Today in Boston there was a special ceremony i covered at the site of the 9/11 memorial in the Boston Public Garden where city & state officials along with family members of those who lost their lives all came together to lay roses in memory of those from Massachusetts who were killed in the attacks.

Alabama Prays

I publish my last post from the Birmingham, Alabama Airport as I wait to catch my flight home. The last day seemed the most emotional as I covered an outdoor prayer service at the Soma Church in Holt, Alabama during which even the pastor broke down.

Holt, Alabama

Here are images I took yesterday in Holt, Alabama as I walked through the streets photographing the devastation. Except for one time when I woman yelled at me to "Get the Hell out of here!" every single person I met during this trip was extremely nice and open to tell their story. When I told some of those I was down photographing from Boston they were beyond surprised and at times glad to see me there to help their story be seen. I was photographing people who literally lost all of their belongings and they still had such large smiles on their faces as they went through the rubble. They all had the same reason to smile, saying they were just thankful to be alive.

When that woman yelled at me I instantly brushed it off knowing that she must have been through a lot and was just venting.
